The Haycock Historical Society plays a important role in preserving, interpreting, and improving our understanding of Haycock history, locally and far reaching. One of the primary missions of the Society is to safeguard historical artifacts and documents, representing the events that have shaped our community. Next is the education they offer. By doing so, they help ensure that future generations learn about their cultural and community heritage.

One of the key objectives of historical societies is to conduct research about our community histories and to compile what they find. This involves not only the collection and preservation of historical materials but also the analysis and interpretation of the actions of our predecessors. What were the founders and past generations most interested in? How did that change our township? This research can provide us with many interesting insights and knowledge about the past.

Through their work, historical societies contribute to a deeper understanding of historical events, figures, and movements, allowing for a greater appreciation of how these elements influence our current community and local society.

Furthermore, historical societies can advocate for the preservation of historical sites and landmarks, recognizing their significance as tangible links to the past. They often collaborate with government agencies, preservationists, and other organizations to ensure that these sites are protected and maintained for future generations.

In summary, the mission and objectives of historical societies encompass a broad range of activities aimed at preserving history, educating the public, and advocating for historical preservation. Through their efforts, our Historical Society plays a vital role in fostering an appreciation for history, ensuring that the lessons and legacies of the past continue to inform and enrich the present and future.

While our older residents may find that reading about our township history is interesting, having the resources made available through the Historical Society is essential for our children and grandchildren to better understand and appreciate our history.
